The Mississauga 55 Plus Carican Group President’sReportforSeptember2021- September2022
To the members of the board ofmanagement of the Mississauga 55 + Carican group
and members, I bring greetings and best wishes to all. Firstly, as has been
announced previously to members, Iwil not be seeking re-election as President of the organization. I do again express my sincerest thanks and deep appreciation to
the officers and members for their solid and unwavering support during my terms in office. It has been a pleasure and honour to be of service to society, humanity and the organization. Iwill continue to render support, advice, input, assistance and help as requested. Iwill take on the role of past president as provided in the Constitution.
The period underreview, continued to be negatively impacted by thethroes of the Covid pandemic. The Covid pandemic, as we may be aware, affected every area of our existence. We do know that the government at every level, businesses and other social groups and organizations were also impacted negatively. As reported in the
last period, we resumed our in-person meetings at our meeting location at the Churchill Meadows Library and Older Adult Community Centre at 3801 Thomas Street in Mississauga in October of 2021.
At the restart, we followed the protocols for Covid set in place by the government authorities. As a result of these actions, some of our social interactions were impacted. As changes and relief to the protocols were removed, we were able to restore some of the accustomed and traditional activities starting in March 2022. We do thank the management and staff of the centre for their ongoing and solid support and cooperation.
The use of Zoom technology was continued, as well as in-person meetings on Tuesdays. Members unable to attend in person were afforded the opportunityt o
participate in our meetings. We did however experience technical difficulties which resulted in our inability to continue to provide this outreach service to those members. I do recommend to the incoming board That we do look into the subiect matter and that we purchase the necessary equipment to reintroduce the service.
Our thanks to our Secretary Rita Challenger, Irene Halliday, our Assistant Social Coordinator and Jerry Halliday, our vice president who played key roles in this endeavour.
Attendance
During the period under review our average attendance was 43 members per session. Attendance has been impacted by aging, mobility, distance, transportation,

family commitments and medical appointments. It is a subjectwhich we are constantlyreviewing for remedies.
